Field Service Management

The technician's job, from assignment to sign-off.

Keep the device, site contact, procedure, readings, test instruments, service items, attachments, and two-party sign-off together in one field workflow.

Follow the work from assignment to history

  1. 1 Start with the ticket Technicians see assigned user requests and incidents, with customer, contact, service and device context already there.
  2. 2 Create the job card Technician, site contact, device details, service context, serial-verification status, comments and next-service date — captured together.
  3. 3 Apply the configured checklist The active checklist version, matched to the equipment and service. Structured items for observations, checks, notes, tables, collections and supported measurements.
  4. 4 Fulfil instrument requirements Configured instrument types and quantities carry into the job. Assign available instruments with a future calibration expiry, and log the activity.
  5. 5 Record items and evidence Parts, consumables, labour, photos and files attach to the job. Configured compatibility guidance can flag choices — it does not auto-approve them.
  6. 6 Generate and sign it A branded PDF with the configured job, device and people context — supports technician and site-contact sign-off through the configured method.
  7. 7 Link back to iTop The completed document connects to its ticket and equipment history in iTop, the underlying system of record.

Structured work at the point of service

Procedures matched to equipment

Administrators create reusable checklist templates, activate a version, clone and preview them, and map by brand, model, service and subcategory.

Each new job uses the configured active match; earlier jobs keep the revision they used. Match quality still depends on maintained source data, assignment coverage and a configured fallback.

Capture reviewable readings

Structured checklist items replace one cramped notes field. Technicians record supported measurement units, optional reference bounds, result vocabulary, observations and tables.

This supports consistent evidence. It does not imply automatic pass/fail, or guarantee the organisation’s acceptance criteria are configured correctly.

Track the assigned instrument

Medeq records instrument type, serial number, calibration interval, expiry, certificate and report. Checkout limits assignment to instruments with a future calibration expiry.

Assignment, return and swap activity keeps instrument context tied to the job. This supports traceability; operating procedures and quality oversight remain the organisation’s responsibility.

A recognisable customer record

The service PDF can include configured branding, customer and site-contact details, device and recorded work — plus parts, labour and instrument calibration.

Technician and site-contact signing gives both parties a sign-off step on the same document. Exact layout, storage, signing method, email invitation and retrieval depend on the deployed configuration.
